Unmonitor or Remove Ended Shows Nobody Watches

A show that has ended will never get a new episode, so there is nothing to monitor — and if nobody has watched it in a year, little reason to keep it. Sonarr knows the first fact; Librariarr’s play history knows the second.

  • Sonarr connected under Settings → Integrations. The Ended and Has Unaired fields read from it.
  • Play history established on the targeted servers, from the server’s own history or from Tracearr; see the delete unwatched media guide.

Start with the non-destructive version. On the Series tab with Match against entire series on, the top group holds:

  • Ended (arrEnded) equals true — Sonarr reports the show as ended.
  • Has Unaired (arrHasUnaired) equals false — nothing is still due to air (a show marked ended can have a final episode pending).

and a nested group (Add Group) joined with OR inside:

  • Watched Episode % (watchedEpisodePercentage) equals 0 — nobody has ever started it.
  • Series Last Played (seriesLastPlayedAt) More Than X Days Ago 365 — the newest play across every episode is over a year old. A show nobody has played has no play date at all, so this condition alone would skip it.

Action Unmonitor Only, delay of a few days. Sonarr stops searching for upgrades; every file stays. Import it from the Rule Set Library.

Series Last Played is what makes this safe for a show someone is working through: it is the most recent play of any episode, so an old season watched last year does not count against a show whose newest episode was played last week.

Once you trust the matches, a second rule set can delete. Use the same conditions plus Watched Episode % (watchedEpisodePercentage) less than 25 — shows the household abandoned early rather than finished — with Delete from Sonarr and a delay of two weeks. Delete from Sonarr removes the whole series and its files; it is refused outright when any episode of the show is on the Exceptions list, even one the rule never matched.

To keep what people did finish, invert the test: Watched Episode % (watchedEpisodePercentage) greater than 90 with Unmonitor Only stops Sonarr spending bandwidth on upgrades for shows that have already been watched through.

  • Series Type (arrSeriesType) — Sonarr’s series type (standard, daily, anime), to keep anime out of a rule written for standard ordering.
  • Available Episode Count (availableEpisodeCount) — how many episodes are actually on disk, so a show you only ever had two episodes of can be treated differently from a complete run.
  • Last Episode Added (lastEpisodeAddedAt) — when the newest episode arrived; more than X days ago keeps a show that is still being filled in off the list.
